Personally, I don't want to be exclusive - unless the FJ want their own section. However, I don't think we have the numbers to do that yet.
Do the terms Infanterie or Landser include FJ ?

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
Well the point is there are only about three non ss cufftitles anyway.
GD, Brandenburg and Fernhalle
Now as most guys already have GD on their kit (off memory helga, che , carl, clifton matt, myself, dieselmonkey) and foldk really like the splinter cammo (pretty rare outside of GD and panzer lehr and other specialist units) it would mean that nobody have to unbadge and you dont unnecessarily have to badge up if you dont want to.
Problem is getting a catchy name, the german were not to hot on it.
Kampgruppe were titled after their commanding officer, so in this case it would be fair to call it kampfrguppe steiner.
A platoon is a 'zug' which is equally not very catchy.
Most german formations were numbered i.e grenadier regiment 1011 etc.
how about
'zee germans!'
in all seriousness
'sturm abeitlung' - Storm Detachment?
I really do think you're better off picking a unit and biting the bullet, looks better sounds better, gives you more team spirit.
Deciding a group identity by committee is a recipe for disaster you end up with arguing procrastination and a watered down ideal.
If you don't start with a strong focus then its hard to maintain impetus, just my opinion like...

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
'sturm abeitlung' - Storm Detachment?
Now that's a pretty good name. ![]()
Or Sturm Kompanie ? Perhaps rolls off the tongue a bit better.

I'd imagine the basic rank for the FJ was 'jaeger', makes sense but i'm sure major will know. i can ask him tonight.

Think that should be "sturm abteilung", either way its what the SA were called so a bit political in a nasty way, plus they were led by Ernst Roehm, a raving homo ![]()

yep, basic rank for FJ was "jager" ![]()
My point Gadge was that no cuff titles would be fine, not more!
Agree about the committee thing - and that is my fault.
Andy proposed to me a way of ensuring new players don't all go the way of SS because the SS now have an 'identity'. We started knocking ideas about for group naming and I stupidly suggested asking others for suggestions. Instead, we end up with a debate about uniform commonality!
The airsoft community doesn't have enough Germans to support 10 separate entities. What would be the point?
There is a generic SS group now, many of which happen for historical reasons to Hohenstaufen. The plan was for a generic Army group, no more no less. Of course many will be GD.

Hmm... good point Slick. Never thought of that.

Sturm Kompanie was how the Liebstandarte called each of their units during the build up to Op Sealion, so it looks as though thats a bit of an SS thing...not helping am I ![]()
It seems as though the heer units were named after a number or their leader (as Gadge said), and this is backed up by my little 1936 infantrymans pocket guide.

Indeed, hence the search for something generic.

Volksgrenadiers ?
Volksgrenadiers ?
Old men and kids! Hmm.... hang on.... he's got a point!

No you`re thinking of the Volksturm ![]()
Volksgrenadier wiki is here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volksgrenadier
Puts on comical commercial voice .... Volksgrenadier
... The Peoples Infantry Man for when no other will do

Sturmgruppe Steiner. Probably not historically accurate joining sturm with gruppe - I just made it up.
Unfortunately the acronym would be SS. Oh well, just trying to help.
I actually worry about the "specialist" 'groups' forming - only for the reason that I, like a few others have multiple impressions.
What are the commitments gonna be?
Dunno I'm not commited to anything ......

I'm in all of them Del!
No 'groups' have asked for a commitment yet, and I doubt they will. This isn't re-enactment. More a sense of belonging and direction really. And to give ideas to newcomers.
We (CiA team) have discussed this at some length. While 'groups' have a team building/bonding aspect to them the danger is that they have the potential to be divisive. As yet we have seen no animosity or baiting (as often happens with general site teams). Indeed, as you say, many players have alternative kit so may have the potential to be in more than one group.
Steiner's premise to forming a group was as a counter to Stubble's SS group, the worry being that new recruits would be drawn to the SS as it is identifiable and by default disregard Heer as an option.

Visions of chommers turning up at an event left side dressed as allied right as axis, or indeed the otherway around
then watching him run around trying to shoot himself
Note when I said I wasn't commited I meant I wasn't in any group.

the doughboys dont ask nor ever will ask for any commitments. we're happy as heck for you to be in all the other groups if you want
I myself am getting a german outfit to try the other side and for games i cant be an american. the other groups all seem the same so I dont see why you couldnt be in all of em.
